Access

Welcome to the Access page of CU PakSoc!

One of the aims of this society is to make Cambridge University more accessible to Pakistanis both from the UK and abroad and to provide support to those within the University. On this page, applicants can find useful information on applying to and visiting Cambridge, as well as check out what events CU PakSoc holds to welcome its freshers. Any questions, feel free to get in touch with our Access Officer, Noor Janjua (Email nj238@cam.ac.uk) or any of our committee.

Applicants

Many Pakistani applicants to Cambridge University often worry about feeling lost or out of place here. But have no fear! Cambridge University is a diversely multicultural university with a substantial Pakistani population and you will soon feel right at home. The committee members of CU Pakistan Society will also do all they can to provide any support you might need, starting with this website.

Browse through the site and have a look at what recent news there is in the society, what kind of events we hold and even take a sneak peek at some of them by checking out the photos. The committee page, predictably, introduces this year’s committee – be sure to email anyone on the committee if there is anything you want to ask.

On this page you can find some useful links and profiles with some personal statements of Pakistani students at Cambridge in various subjects. These should give you a good flavour of what life is really like at Cambridge and allow you to see examples of personal statements that worked. If you would like any further advice on applications, do not hesitate to email the Access Officer (please see committee page) and they will do their best to help you or put you in contact with someone more useful.

To further encourage Pakistani applicants, CU Pakistan Society plans to hold an Access Day for all interested. This will be an opportunity for applicants and those thinking about applying to visit the city of Cambridge and the University, take a guided tour of colleges and academic departments, and have their questions answered by current students. See below for details of the upcoming Access Day.

Freshers

Starting at university can always be daunting especially if you’re worried that you’re not quite the Cambridge ‘type’. Luckily though, there is no Cambridge ‘type’, the university and its members are very accommodating, and anyway, CU PakSoc is here to make the transition into university as smooth and fun as possible!

Our events start right at the beginning of the year at the University Freshers’ Fair where you can find about the society and its upcoming events. Then there’s freshers’ squash, an informal evening of light refreshments and friendly mingling where you can meet the committee and get to know other Pakistanis (and usually a generous sprinkling of non-Pakistanis!) From here on in, keep an eye out for a variety of CU PakSoc events throughout the year!
